SPANISH STEPS & TOOLBOX ART STUDIO SUMMER WEDDING IN WASHINGTON, DC
Oh goodness - this is one of my favorite days in recent memory! I first met Jen and Scott when we met up for their engagement session at the National Arboretum last fall. They told me all about how excited they were for their June wedding at the Toolbox Art Studio in DC - and I got all excited too! They day started out with hair and makeup for Jen and her maid of honor at the Kimpton Palomar hotel in Dupont. Fun fact - this was the same day as DC Pride, so the place was packed! I got there super early since there were a ton of road closures expected and got to take my time with the detail shots (my fav!!). From there, we walked along the parade route, where Jen stopped to take a few photos with parade goers and everyone cheered as she passed. What a fun atmosphere!
We finally got to the Spanish Steps for the first look. We took family photos and photos with the best man and maid of honor before heading out to the ceremony at the Toolbox Art Studio. This space was gorgeous - tons of bistro lights, mirrors and exposed brick! We got all set up, had a beautiful ceremony (I only cried once this time! A record low for me), and then we headed into cocktail hour. The catering was the best - Timber Pizza Co killed it. Unfortunately, we had a slight scare when a gun went off during DC pride. For about an hour, we had to keep guests inside and not let anyone know what was going on until we had more inspiration. That was definitely a first for me as a photographer! Thankfully, it was NOT an active shooter, and we were able to relax knowing that everyone was safe and out of harm's way.
The night continued with fun toasts and memorable speeches from the father of the bride, the best man and the maid of honor. After some dancing and drinks, Jen and Scott served guests custom ice cream sandwiches from a dessert food truck. What a perfect ending to a gorgeous day! Congrats to Jen and Scott - best wishes for a long and happy life together!
