WELCOME 2019: GOALS + THOUGHTS ON THE NEW YEAR

Well…this is my first time doing this. I have no idea how this will be received, but I am excited to let you all into my personal life. The truth is that there is so much that goes on behind the scenes of this business and many people don’t offer a glimpse into the self-employed life. It truly seems glamorous - between setting your own hours and being your own boss - but it takes hard, hard work and discipline. Even then, things go wrong, ankles break (totally random, hypothetical example), and suddenly, you are faced with a situation for which you have not planned. And that sucks.

So, here is to the new year. To showing the good and the bad. I want accountability and friendship, and I hope this resonates with someone.

Just a brief reminder (mainly to myself) of where I was in 2018…and how much better things will be in 2019!

Okay, so now we see where we WERE, let’s see where we are going. First things first - business goals for the year! Throughout my business this year, I want to focus on my presence. This goes beyond being present and asks the question, “How exactly am I showing up? What does being present look like when taken one step further?” The majority of both my personal and business goals have to do with “showing up” and being the best I can be.

Goal 1: Build up my web presence

This is one part of my business that has been not really worked on at all since I started. Yes, I blog. I update the website regularly, and all that jazz, but that’s about it. One of the main ways people find professionals in any capacity right now is just simply by hopping on Google and searching for what they need. I have been around long enough that I really need to stop putting this off!
- Subgoal 1: Rank on the first page of Google for my top keywords, like “Virginia wedding photographer.”
- Subgoal 2: Create a system and workflow for blog posts that optimize them for Google and other search engines.
- Subgoal 3: Go back through all the old blog posts and make sure they are formatted properly for search engine optimization.

Goal 2: Work on marketing outside of social media

This is so important to me as I continue to grow. I am rooted to this area, and I want to make new relationships with other wedding pros in both the Charlottesville and Roanoke areas. I love this region of Virginia and I eventually want to be working all over these beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Subgoal 1: Submit all 2019 weddings for feature in online or print publications.
- Subgoal 2: Submit the rest of 2018 weddings for publication.
- Subgoal 3: Explore other avenues of marketing both online and in-person, such as bridal shows.

Goal 3: Work with new wedding professionals in new areas

This is so important to me as I continue to grow. I am rooted to this area, and I want to make new relationships with other wedding pros in both the Charlottesville and Roanoke areas. I love this region of Virginia and I eventually want to be working all over these beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
- Subgoal 1: Book 1 wedding in Charlottesville.
- Subgoal 2: Book 1 wedding in Roanoke.
- Subgoal 3: Design and shoot four styled shoots with all different vendors throughout central Virginia.
